Turkey denies FM called Uyghur Turks ‘terrorists’

Turkish FM Davutoglu described China’s Uyghur Autonomous Region as a culture bridge between Turkey and China.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry denied on Tuesday the claims that Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu had called Uyghur Turks in East Turkestan “terrorists.”

In response to media reports in Turkey on Tuesday regarding Turkish FM Davutoglu’s Monday meeting with Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Brunei, Turkish diplomatic sources said such a description by the Turkish FM was out of question.

Turkish Foreign Ministry officials noted that during the meeting with Wang, Davutoglu had actually referred to China’s Uyghur Autonomous Region as “a culture bridge between Turkey and China.”

Stressing that Turkey attached special importance to the peace and prosperity of the people in the region, Ministry officials suggested that Turkey was ready for cooperation with China in areas such as economy, culture and politics.
